Thank you – It has been an Honor…

It has be an honor working for you all during this primary election.  I appreciate how hard each of you worked to further our cause, saving the United States of America.  I have been inspired by your devotion to our great nation and to the task of holding our government responsible to the people, and I am humbled by the fact that nearly 19,000 of you cast your vote for me.

Although we did not prevail, the fight must continue.  We must not relent in our efforts to return to our founding principles of limited government, more freedom, and citizen legislators who perform a public service by going to Washington and then go home to their real lives.  We must return to the Constitution.  Remember, it is the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution that made this country great, a beacon of light for all who long for freedom to see.

Today’s fight is to replace President Obama.  We must work to ensure that Mitt Romney is elected in November.  It is critical that Pat McCrory is elected Governor of NC, and that we maintain and expand our majorities in both the US House and in the NC General Assembly. And finally, we must help where we can to elect conservative candidates to the US Senate so that we can take the majority there as well.  However, it is not enough that a person have an (R) next to their name, we must ensure that they vote conservative, not just talk conservative. That will take work on our part, following what they do rather than what they say.  We must demand that they stand before us on a regular and recurring basis to explain what they are doing and why.  We must demand that they listen to us and take our concerns to Washington, to speak for us.  If they won’t come to us then we must go to them.  Bus loads of us showing up at their offices in Washington or in their home district should get their attention.

It is time for the people to take back their government.

Thank you again for your support and your vote,

Frank Palombo

Congressman says he’s too busy for voters in New Hanover, Pender

WWAY’s lead story tonight takes on 18-year incumbent Walter Jones’ refusal to campaign in the District and to visit new voters in New Hanover and Pender Counties.  From the WWAY website:

When voters in Pender County and parts of New Hanover County go to the polls, they may be surprised by who they’re voting for for Congress.  The area is now part of the 3rd Congressional District, but incumbent Rep. Walter Jones has spent little time in his new territory.

Jones has held his seat for 18 years, but challenger Frank Palombo, the former police chief in New Bern, says it’s time for a change.  He’s been all over the redrawn 3rd District, while Jones has been a lot less visible.

“In order for the people to make a good choice, and it’s so important that you make a good choice for the person that’s going to represent you in Washington, DC, you have to be able to talk to the candidates,” candidate Frank Palombo said. “The candidates owe you the opportunity to stand side-by-side, say what they want to say and then answer your questions.”

Jones told WWAY that he’s too busy to campaign but that voters can expect to receive his mailer.

WWAY News in Wilmington Asks, “Where’s Walter?”

WWAY News Channel 3 asks readers, “Where’s Walter?”

From The Rant on the WWAY News Channel 3 website:

When the North Carolina General Assembly redrew the 3rd Congressional District, it extended it from the Virginia state line, down through Pender County and into Downtown Wilmington.

I guess Rep. Walter Jones didn’t get the memo, because to my knowledge, he’s made no effort to come down and introduce himself to his new constituents. I haven’t even seen any of his campaign signs on the side of the road. Is Jones that comfy up in Washington? Why would the folks in Pender County and Downtown Wilmington feel comfortable voting for this guy to represent them if they don’t even know him?

On the other hand, his opponent Frank Palombo made the effort. The former New Bern Police Chief set up an interview here at the station not only to introduce himself to the managers; he stayed and did an interview with our Political Editor Kevin Wuzzardo. Kevin says he’s also reached out to the Jones campaign, and no one has even had the courtesy to call or e-mail him back.

I’m not suggesting who anyone should vote for Tuesday, but I can tell you that one of the candidates is working a lot harder to represent you in Washington than the other. Maybe that should tell you something.
